Golden fish & game club fundraising for elk collaring project

The Golden District Rod & Gun Club is raising funds to conduct a study on the health of the local elk population.

Proceeds of the 50/50 raffle will be used to support the North Trench Elk Collaring Project, a joint study with provincial biologists. They hope to better understand habitat use, gain confidence in population counts, determine limiting factors to the herds and investigate causes of mortality.

“B.C.’s regional elk stewardship plan made it clear to us that very little is known about the Rocky Mountain elk and that the province has no plans to change that,” said club Executive Director Brian Gustafsen. “We approached the regional biologists about a collaboration and have started to share resources and jointly work on this collaring project. There is a major data gap, so we are doing what we can to ensure the future sustainability and science-based management of the population.”

As the project evolves, there will be opportunities for local volunteers to participate.

Ticket buyers have a chance to win up to $10,000 (50% of total sales). Ticket sales end on December 1st and the draw will be completed December 2nd.
