Two locals land big grand prizes in Kootenay Lake Angler Incentive Program

On November 12 the West Arm Outdoors Club and B.C. Wildlife Federation announced the winners of the Grand Prize draw of the Kootenay Lake Angler Incentive Program at Main Jet Motorsports in Nelson, B.C.

Today’s grand prize winners are Gordon Ogilvie of Wynndel, B.C. and Larry Posnikoff of Crescent Valley, B.C.

Gordon has won a Fishing Lodge package from Coastal Springs Float Lodge in Knight Inlet. The package includes four nights and three days of guided fishing for two people, including float plane transportation from Vancouver.

Larry Posnikoff has won a Polaris Sportsman ATV from Main Jet Motorsports in Nelson.

On his big win, Gordon said: “Winning the grand prize has made a long-time dream of mine come true. Doing a coastal fishing trip by float plane is something I’ve always wanted to do, so I’m thrilled to be going to Coastal Springs Float Lodge and can’t wait. Thanks to the West Arm Outdoor club, the BCWF and all the sponsors for making it happen.”

Gordon has a personal reason for participating in the program: “I remember the enormous Rainbow Trout that used to populate the lake, and I’ve seen their decline, so I want to help bring them back for future generations”.

Second Grand Prize winner Larry Posnikoff has big plans for his new ATV: “l plan to use my ATV to do more off-road exploration in our beautiful Kootenay back country and beyond,” he said.

Larry is also a big supporter of the Kootenay Lake Angler Incentive Program: “I have been an avid fisherman all my live. I fish Kootenay Lake regularly. I have seen the glory days and experienced the decline of the Kokanee. It’s good news to see action being taken to try and restore our fishery back to the world-renowned levels we once enjoyed. I am hopeful this program will be successful so young anglers like my grandson will experience the rush of screaming lines, like I have.”

The draw marks the halfway point in the second year of the Kootenay Lake Angler Incentive Program. The program, a tremendous local success, has been extended to run until the end of May 2022, with another set of fantastic prizes for fishers of all ages.

Kevin Westerhaug, Manger, Main Jet Motor Sports, says: “We really appreciate how the Kootenay Lake Angler Incentive Program has supported local businesses and is drawing more people to Kootenay Lake to explore our great outdoors.”

So, get out and help restore B.C.’s iconic Kokanee salmon while hooking a delicious trout dinner!

Wildlife Federation, Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC, Habitat Conservation Trust Foundation, Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development (FLNORD), Main Jet Motorsports, Coastal Springs Float Lodge, and several local merchants from around Kootenay Lake.
