The BCWF Wetlands Education Program (WEP) has received funding from Wildlife Habitat Canada, the Habitat Conservation Trust Foundation, the Fish and Wildlife Compensation Program, the Columbia Basin Trust, the Province of British Columbia, Environment and Climate Change Canada, and the Healthy Watersheds Initiative, which is delivered by the Real Estate Foundation of BC and Watersheds BC, with financial support from the Province of British Columbia. Our programs are supported in part by the B.C. Wildlife Federation.
This year the Wetlands Education Program is partnering with like-minded conservation organizations, government agencies and First Nation bands. Through these partnerships, we can make a greater impact on conserving, stewarding, and teaching British Columbians about wetlands and all the animals who need them.
WEP will be hosting ten educational workshops across B.C., alongside outreach events. Our education programs focus on teaching about wetlands and empowering individuals to become stewards in their community.
Alongside the educational workshops, the Wetlands Education Program will be hosting the Wetlands Institute Comox Valley and Galiano Island. The Wetlands Institute is an intensive, 7-day hands-on workshop that provides wetland conservation and restoration training to practitioners in B.C. Alongside the hands-on training, the Wetlands Institute will offer a Speaker Series which is made up of five online seminars featuring expert speakers.
With the support of our funders, the WEP team will be conducting six restoration projects and providing maintenance and monitoring to over 30 sites in B.C.
Finally, when the WEP team is not boots on the ground doing restoration work and hosting workshops, this funding will support conservation at a larger scale through the Wetland Stewardship Partnership of BC (WSP) to develop provincial wetland policies and implement B.C.’s Wetland Action Plan.
Our mission is to ensure that the wetlands and natural spaces we enjoy today are managed responsibly for future generations to enjoy as well. Learn more about the Wetlands Education Program here.
Thank you to our funders for making all of this possible!
