Engage Now on the 2025 Pre-Budget Consultation

The B.C. Wildlife Federation has been extremely vocal on the ban and buyback of firearms owned by Canadians for hunting and sport shooting.

In an article in Castanet last December, Jesse Zeman was quoted as saying: “They’re going to call them assault-style rifles, but of course, assault rifles have been prohibited in Canada since 1969. This is another [ban based on] looks. This firearm looks bad, this firearm looks okay. Gun related homicides are going up in a major way, and these firearms are coming across our border, they’re not from law abiding firearms owners. Focus on the problem.”

Now, there is an opportunity to tell the government that the firearms buyback is a waste of tax-payer dollars and that it will do nothing to improve Canada’s defense and security.

On the 2025 Pre-Budget Consultation, Question 3 asks: “What is your highest priority when it comes to Canada’s defence and security?” and one of the options for selection is: “Completing the firearms buyback program.”

Section 4 allows you to provide your input on priorities for spending, and gives you space to tell the government that the firearms buyback program is a waste of taxpayer dollars.

Complete the 2025-Pre-Budget Consultation and let the government know that lawful firearms owners are not the problem. Canadians are among the most highly regulated firearm owners in the world. Statistics show that PAL holders are not a threat to public safety. Further restricting firearms ownership by licensed owners will have no impact.

The deadline for consultation is August 28, 2025.

Complete the consultation now.
