Donations and heavy equipment needed to develop the Skooks Landing boat launch and interpretive site

The Kaska Nation, Toad River Area Club, the North East BC Wildlife Fund, and the government of British Columbia are collaborating to create a recreational site and boat launch at Skooks Landing.

Improved vehicle access and parking will be added to encourage the surrounding community to engage in outdoor activities, connect with nature, and understand the area’s cultural significance.

Traditional Kaska knowledge of the site is being incorporated into the design and management of the site. The area is currently designated as a BC Forestry Recreation Site and the planned upgrades have the support of the Northern Rockies Regional Municipality in Ft. Nelson.

The estimated cost of the project is $210,000, but government assistance is limited. The collaborating groups are seeking donations of money, skilled labour, and heavy equipment to begin clearing and site preparation. The work is being timed to avoid disturbing birds during nesting season and to mitigate wildfire risk.

This is not a BCWF project. Donations will be held and managed by the Northeast BC Wildlife Fund. To offer your assistance or a donation contact NEBCWF special projects director Tom Fulton at tomfulton.bc@gmail.com.
