Making an Immediate Impact: A Policy & Engagement Coordinator Update

Steve Hamilton joined the B.C. Wildlife Federation as an advocate for our member clubs and policy objectives just a few months ago, but already his role is growing and bringing value to the Federation.

Steve has launched the educational Learn to Hunt and Learn to Fish video series.

Eleven episodes are scheduled for this year and three have already been produced, with roughly six more in the planning phase. Each episode has drawn more than 100 viewers, but the entire series will be made available to members and paying non-members for years to come. We expect the library of instructional materials for aspiring anglers and hunters to help the Federation recruit new members in perpetuity.

“So far, the L2H and L2F series has knocked it out of the park for quality and impact,” said BCWF Executive Director Jesse Zeman.

The BCWF’s first collaboration with GoFish BC opened strong with a Family Day Fishing Photo Contest. Plans are already being made to hold public fishing events four times a year, starting with Father’s Day this June and following up with events around Labour Day and Thanksgiving.

Steve has been busy reaching out through the Federation’s regional and club networks to hugely expand National Range Day in B.C. This annual event is already well-established across the country, but we see an opportunity to make National Range Day into an event our member clubs can use to engage their local communities, to talk about firearms safety and common-sense firearms legislation.

“Conservationists, hunters, anglers, and sport shooters continue to do incredible work and give back to fish, wildlife and habitat daily to the tune of over 300,000 volunteer hours a year. We will bring these stories forward- and together we can make a positive impact on preserving our heritage and traditions.”- Steve Hamilton
