What's the difference between the Series, Orientation, and Academy?
The Series is a monthly online webinar for members looking to learn and improve their skills. The Orientation is a two-hour in-person introduction to hunting, held monthly at the BCWF office in Surrey. The Academy is a hands-on field workshop covering practical skills across seven modules — from regulations and firearm safety to wilderness first aid and field dressing.
Each program suits a different stage, from curious beginner to hands-on learner.
Do I need to be a BCWF member to participate?
Membership is required for the Learn to Hunt and Fish Series webinars and gets you free access to Orientation sessions. Non-members can attend Orientations for $30.
Do I need a hunting or fishing licence to participate?
No — these programs are designed for people at any stage, including those who don’t yet have a licence. They’re a great first step toward getting one.
Where are the in-person sessions held?
Orientation sessions are currently held at the BCWF office in Surrey. Check the Learn to Hunt and Fish Orientation page for upcoming dates. Academy locations will be confirmed closer to each event.
I'm a complete beginner — where should I start?
The Learn to Hunt and Fish Orientation is the perfect starting point. It’s a two-hour in-person session designed specifically for new and prospective hunters, covering methods, species, gear, and regulations. If you prefer to start online, the Series webinars are a great way to build knowledge from home.
