President

David Lewis

For the last 30+ years, David has worked for the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA). During his time he has demonstrated his ability for leadership & administration through his various roles within the CBSA.

His involvement on the B.C. Wildlife Federation (BCWF) Board of Directors began as Region 6 President, then continued as BCWF Vice President. Recently he has stepped in as Acting President. This gives David insight, knowledge, and experience to make informed decisions about current issues and how to move forward for the betterment of BCWF membership.

David believes that the BCWF, as a grassroots organization rich in conservation history, has the duty to ensure that the opportunities we have today are here for generations to come. His passion for the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and shooting has generated an understanding of a wide range of issues – access, firearms, & opportunity for all. He works to create a balance between resource extraction, preserving habitat & leaving enough habitat suitable for wildlife expansion.

As a member-based organization, we are here for the members as they provide us guidance for what we do. David is here to work for the membership.

We need to respect the environment we’re in & the animals that are in it. David believes in the traditions of foraging off the land rather than buying in the store & has a growing respect for the land & wilderness. A healthy well managed environment leads to healthy numbers which show how well the environment is managed.

David is involved with numerous boards, processes, & roundtables like Habitat Conservation Trust Foundation, BC Conservation Foundation, Provincial & Federal fishing processes, & hunting processes to name a few.

David is dedicated & willing to work hard for today & harder for tomorrow. If we want to be successful, we need leadership to take steps beyond today & tomorrow for future generations to come. The goal is to be an open, and transparent President for the organization.

Vice-President

Mark McDonald

I am a father of 2 grown children, step grandfather of 4 and live in Ladner BC with my partner of 8 years. I live and work in Delta where I am a 4th generation resident, hunter and angler.

I am President of the Delta Ladner Rod & Gun Club, Past President of the BCWF Lower Mainland Region,Vice President of the BCWF and a BCWF Life Member. My first club membership was written when I was a junior around 12 years old. I have been involved at the club, regional or provincial level in some way ever since.

At the club level, I was part of running our junior program for over 25 years introducing dozens of youth to fishing, fly tying, archery, marksmanship and more. I also organized our youth hunts for Waterfowler Heritage days for its’ entire duration, helping mentor over 250 youth in the art of hunting waterfowl. I have also served the club as secretary, vice president and now president (again lol). I am extremely passionate about youth being the future of the outdoor pastimes that we all love.

At the regional level, I have been involved for over 20 years serving as director, vice president, president and now past president. Our region is inundated with tenure and industrial proposals and infrastructure projects. I have been the author of many of the regional submissions to various levels of government on these projects. I’ve also been very involved with our Fishing Forever weekend where we have hosted one of the largest events in the province.

I have served on the BCWF Board as regional president and most recently as vice president. I do believe that I bring a good volume of experience to the position. In my time on the board, I am quite proud that I have been a part of helping steer the BCWF in the very positive and productive direction we are headed. Looking out for our fish, wildlife and their habitats, and fighting for opportunity for every BC resident to enjoy the outdoors in our wonderful province in the future should be our highest priority

Treasurer

Jeff Ayre

I am a CPA,CGA and have a passion for wildlife and the great outdoors. I have been a member of the BCWF since 2012. I came to realize that it is through volunteerism and working with the many dedicated persons engaged in advocacy for our natural rights as citizens of this beautiful province, that I can best support the effort to preserve those rights for current and future generations. As a result, I decided to run for the Board of Directors as Treasurer in 2022. I am happy and proud that I was selected into this position and have worked over the last year for, and beside, all the dedicated persons that are either employed by, or volunteer for, the BCWF.

There is much work yet to do. In fact, it is never ending. The responsibility to properly manage the resources of the natural world, as we are so fortunately endowed, is a serious one. And it encompasses many divergent interests. From wetlands conservation and the preservation of natural habitat generally, to access to opportunities for fishing and hunting for all those that want that experience, to the protection of the legal rights of responsible owners and users of firearms, and to better understanding, and improving relations with, the First Nations with whom we share the land, water and air. And much more.

My desire is to continue to contribute in the capacity as a member of the Board of Directors of the BCWF as Treasurer, to use my professional skills and personal passion to support the efforts of all those dedicated people that make an effort every day to ensure that future generations will have the opportunity to experience the great natural wonders of the place we choose to call home.

Director

Rob Chipman

The conservation and restoration of fish, wildlife and habitat along with access to those three things for all British Columbians are the core goals of BCWF. I share the vision of other board members, past and present, that the best way to achieve those goals is to increase membership, continue to improve BCWF relationships with Indigenous people and continue to build the BCWF’s organizational skills and capacities. During my last term as director, I have served on the Strategic Planning, Governance, Finance Committees and chaired the Indigenous Relations Committees. Each of those committees has worked very hard and made concrete progress resulting in, among other things, a very detailed strategic plan, a solid budget and some important constitutional resolutions to make our organization more effective.

I would like to continue this path forward. A common goal among directors is to make the BCWF a global model for all hunting, angling and conservation/restoration organizations. This may seem overly aggressive, but the threats and challenges to fish, wildlife, habitat and access that we face are gigantic. To successfully continue our successful history in these changing times we cannot engage in half measures. We really require a larger membership that drives an even more effective organization in order to achieve the significant influence and income required to influence government and First Nations. Without doing that we face the prospect of greatly reduced hunting, angling and access opportunities on a wide range of fronts.

I seek another term as director of BCWF in order to help leave a British Columbia for those who follow us that provides the same sort of enjoyment and opportunity that we have all enjoyed If you share that vision please vote for me at the 2023 AGM

Pat Whittingham

I’m a retired CPA who has had a passion for hunting, fishing, and the outdoors since I was a youngster. I’ve been a BCWF member for about 40 years.

I recently completed a four-year term as Regional President for Region 8. I’ve served on several BCWF committees, including Strategic Planning and Wildlife, and have served on the Finance Committee for several years. I’ve also served on many regional and club level committees.

My family has been involved in conservation for decades, with my father volunteering for the local fish and game club as far back as the 1950’s. At the club level, I served on the Oceola Fish and Game Club board for 8 years, and helped manage rapid growth of our membership base of over 400%.

Regionally, I’ve spearheaded conservation initiatives by chairing the Fishing and Hunting Advisory Committee, Wildlife Committee, and Wilderness Watch Committee. I’ve volunteered my time in the SIMDeer and Cougar Projects as well.

I have recently started up a Chronic Wasting Disease Committee to bring awareness of the threat of CWD through presentations at several clubs and the development of a better head sampling program in the Okanagan. I’ve also spent considerable time meeting with our elected MLAs, MPs, and Municipal politicians on behalf of our membership.

I believe the BCWF needs to enhance our appeal to a younger demographic, and would love the opportunity to use my 40 years of business experience to help market the organization to those who are the future of conservation.

I enjoy the interaction of the Federation’s Board of Directors, and respectfully ask for your support so that I can help protect our hunting, fishing, and sport shooting heritage for generations to come.

Jason Bellows

I grew up on a farm here in the Salmon Valley outside of Salmon Arm BC. The oldest of 4 boys who grew up farming, playing sports and living in the outdoors, camping, hunting and fishing with our parents and many other family members.
Hunting and fishing have always been a passionate part of my life. I have always had a draw to the outdoors which I turned into my career when the opportunity arose to purchase an outdoor store here in my home town.

Together with my wife Sarah, we own and operate Westside Stores in Salmon Arm as well as a guided fishing business on Shuswap Lake. We are raising our two daughters in this life style and teaching them to hunt and fish from the time that they were only a couple of months old. We take our daughters on several adventures throughout the year and they have fallen in love with hunting and fishing.

I have been involved with the Sport Fish Advisory Committee until this past January where I stepped down from the position. I Iam looking to take on a more fulfilling roll with the BCWF to help better our fish and wildlife as well as their habitat for their future and our children’s futures. I believe in hard work and dedication along with working with all stake holders to better fish and wildlife and ensure that they remain on the landscape for future generations.

Sarah and I have been supporters of the BCWF through donations from our business as well as supporting the WSSBC to raise funds to support the many projects they they contribute to each year.

I have been a member of the BCWF for many years and recently purchased a Life Membership in conjunction with a Life Membership that I hold with the WSSBC.

I believe that I would be a good person for this roll as I am passionate about the hard work that the BCWf has been doing over the years and I want to help in as many ways as I possibly can for the next generation of Hunters and Anglers in BC.
