The BCWF Learn to Hunt and Fish Orientation is a two-hour in-person session held monthly at the BCWF Office in Surrey, British Columbia, open to anyone curious about hunting. Led by knowledgeable BCWF representatives, each session covers the core knowledge every new hunter needs before heading into the field — in a welcoming and approachable environment.

Who is this session for?
The Orientation is open to anyone curious about hunting and the outdoors — no experience or licence required. It’s designed for complete beginners and prospective hunters who want to understand the basics before committing to a full course. As the program grows, we hope to expand into additional topics.
What will I learn at the Orientation?
Current sessions focus on hunting fundamentals (methods, common species in B.C., gear, and equipment) and regulations and responsibilities (licensing requirements, B.C. hunting regulations, and hunting ethics). You’ll leave with a clear picture of what getting started actually looks like. More topics are planned as the program develops.
How much does it cost?
Orientation sessions are free for BCWF members and $30 for non-members. BCWF membership starts at $63.35/year and includes free access to all Orientation sessions and Learn to Hunt and Fish Series webinars, plus a full range of member benefits.
What's the next step after the Orientation?
If you’re ready to get your hunting licence, the next step is completing your CORE (Conservation and Outdoor Recreation Education) certification.
